Artist Statement

My work plays with the concept of repetition and the variation derived from it being handmade.

The importance of the artist’s hand is vital to the soul of the work, allowing a dialogue to develop between the artist and the material through direct influence on one another. Each piece begins with a framework of how it is going to be constructed.  Through the process, the piece evolves and changes. Repetitious elements build familiarity in the process, but also allow for the smallest variation in detail to magnify. Through simple repetition and a framework that is both scientific and mathematical, the line transforms to become a fabric, a network, and ultimately a construction.
