DIANNE ROMAINE

My work is involved with noticing the subtle, and an ongoing questioningof what is and isn't essential. Seeking elemental solutions, I've reduce my "palette" to very simple forms, and an economy of materials. Beginning with formal concerns, the work is developed through a curiosity about processes. Following a reductive path, these Flux paintings are primarily concerned with composition, expressed in a range of dots, single or accumulated. The composition is built, dot by dot; light is reduced incrementally. Each mark is permanent; there is no going backward or covering up. The wet on wet process creates the kinetic, pulsating effect that plays with the relationship between object and ground. As the series has progressed, a sense of infinity has become more and more apparent.
